GULF OF CAGLIARI AND THE ANGELS

The Gulf of Cagliari (Sardinian: Casteddu de golfu on), also known as the Gulf of Angels, is a stretch to the limits of the Tyrrhenian Sea on which overlooks the southern coast of Sardinia.

The Gulf of Cagliari is bordered on the east by Capo Carbonara and the island of Cavoli and west from Cape Spartivento [1]. The coast is partly sandy and partly rocky but with a little jagged profile with few inlets.

The cliffs are made from granite or shale rock formations that extend at the massif of the Sulcis to the west and the east of Sarrabus and the promontory of St. Elias at the center.

Several small beaches are scattered along the coast in small coves that alternate with stretches of cliffs. The most important by extension and number of visitors is the Poetto, a natural strip of 8 km that separates the Gulf from the pond of Molentargius in front of the city of Cagliari and Quartu Sant'Elena.

Cagliari is the only town that overlooks the Gulf actually, while other metropolitan centers are located a few kilometers from the coast.

The entire coastline is dotted with tourist or residential settlements that are fractions belonging to the municipalities of Domus de Maria, Pula, Villa San Pietro, Sarroch, Capoterra, Cagliari, Quartu Sant'Elena, Maracalagonis, Sinnai (nell ' "administrative island" of Solanas) and Villasimius.

The most popular beaches are located in Chia, Santa Margherita di Pula, Nora, La Maddalena, Cagliari, Quartu Sant'Elena, Flumini di Quartu, Foxi, Torre delle Stelle, Solanas, Geremeas, Villasimius and Capo Carbonara.
