The Norman Palio is a historical re-enactment of the victory of the Norman Christians led by the
Count Ruggero d'Altavilla who since 1061 fought against the Saracens considered unfaithful because they were Muslims.
It takes place from 1952 on 12, 13 and 14 August.

It was born at the end of the seventeenth century as "Cavalcata", a historic procession in honor of the Most Holy of Victories, considered to be the creator of Count's wars and the liberation of Sicily. His banner was donated to the town by Count Ruggero and became the patron saint of Piazza Armerina.

Today the Palio of Piazza Armerina is among the reconstructions of the most important medieval history
Southern Italy.

It is articulated in three days:

    The 13th at the delivery of the city keys to
    Count Ruggero;
    14th to the quintana or Saracen's carousel that you

    The 4 neighborhoods, each represented by 5 horsemen,
    They challenge on horseback by supporting 4 skill tests.
